Ower of Masseria Salemina Filippo started his career as a lawyer and began his own law firm in Macerata. In 2008 Filippo returned to his beloved Puglia to work and live at the Masseria. The Masseria has a beautiful organic farm for high quality extra virgin olive oil, almonds and grains. The family started to do experiences for tourists at the farm, related to traditional food with professional olive oil tasting and cooking courses. The family lives in the Masseria and there goal is to share their passion with the guests at the Masseria.
The mix of high quality agriculture, historical buildings and nice villages, climate, amazing food and friendly people make Puglia a unique area in Italy.
The name ‘Masseria Salamina’ came from the first owner Giuseppe Salamina that build the Masseria 400 years ago. Masseria Means a big farm that run a lot of land to produce olive oil. Masseria Salamina was a fortified farm to protect oil against the pirates. In the past oil was very expensive because it was being used to make light in houses and cities, as to produce soap and natural cosmetics and medicine. In the finish of the XIX century the Masseria was recovert by Filippo’s family as a summer villa. In 1986 the father and mother of Filippo started to renovate the Masseria into an agriturismo with rooms and a restaurant.
Our mission is to give our guests a real Masseria experience that is made by quality, local food, amazing oil, smiles and very good wines and of course a lot of sun! - Filippo
The Masseria is located in the Fasano area, with in front the sea and behind the hills. The Masseria is close to the Itria Valley, Poglignano a Mare, Monopoli, Ostuni and some amazing beaches. Great places to visit if you want to tour around the area.
The Masseria Salamina is a unique place because it has kept his original soul, that is farming activity and oil production. Also the Masseria is still the house of Filippo and his family. “People can feel the passion and love for the place, as history can be touch and experienced by walking through the Masseria or the century old olive trees” says Filippo.
The inspiration for the Masseria comes from the history and tradition of the family of Filippo, that lives and produce oil in Puglia for more than 600 years. The rest is unique as it is, and not comparable to anything else. As a guest at the Masseria you are staying at a real farm, a real house and a real historical place, not just an hotel.
Filippo’s ultimate dream for the future is to produce wine and cheese again at the farm, an agriculture made by sustainability and biodiversity.
All new projects at the Masseria start from agriculture because that will be the future of the land, our kids and our planet - Filippo
