Museum Adventure: The Textile Museum

Last week we visited the Textile Museum in Tilburg, one of the few working Dutch museums ‘in operation’, with authentic and modern textile machines which are used for production. Tilburg once was the wool capital of the Netherlands. The innovative museum is housed in a former textile factory, not only tracing the development of textile production processes but also exhibiting the work of international textile artists. We were amazed by the current projects; designers continuously provide the staff members in the Textile Lab with exciting assignments. The museum is definitely worth a visit, when you are interested in textiles or when you are around Tilburg. Oh, and there is a lovely cafe!

Some of our fave exhibitions at the moment:

There is an exhibition of royal textile masterpieces, from damask to fashion. This royal blue piece was worn by Máxima, Queen of The Netherlands, with the inauguration;

'Fringes of Beauty' is a result of research and development by different artists. This sculpture by Heringa/Van Kalsbeek, is inspired by butterfly wings, with feathers and pompoms;

Sparkling table linen by Studio Prelude, with reflective yarns for rainbow colours. It mirrors the interaction between the Dutch glass- and textile design;
